ADOT Will Install Continuous Lighting on 89A Regardless of Support or Opposition

Arizona Department of Transportation representatives said at an Oct. 28 special city council work-study session on various street lighting systems for West Sedona that they would put continuous lighting on State Route 89A even if the city doesn’t want it. “ADOT is willing to build it and maintain it and will go ahead,” Mr. Harper said, later admitting ADOT would pay for the electricity as well if it had to.

Halloween weekend has arrived, and costume or not, Sedona art connoisseurs are in for a real treat. The Sedona Visual Artists’ Coalition opens it’s 2009 Annual Fall Art Exhibition Friday, October 30th from 5-8pm at Tlaquepaque. Come on by to enjoy live music, wine and hor d’oeuvres, and see how some of Sedona’s most amazing artists interpreted this year’s theme, “Beneath the Surface”.

Sedona’s largest kid-friendly event is the 23rd annual Safe & Fun Trick or Treating. Hosted by the Sedona Main Street Program, the event gathers all of Sedona’s children into one convenient location, reducing the distance they must walk to gather enough Halloween candy, sweets, gifts and freebies to keep them on a sugar high until Thanksgiving. Most businesses in Uptown Sedona participate in the event that runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

ADOT SR 179 Construction Update: Week of Oct. 26

• Crews will be working on completion of the median curb and gutter north of Chapel and in the Oak Creek Cliffs to Juniper Trail area.
• Traffic has been shifted west between Morgan Road and Morgan Wash so crews can start installation of storm drain and curb and gutter along east side.
• Work will start this week on the wall near Canyon Drive which will be constructed from the top down.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the exclusive audience test screening of “Vanquish” — a supernatural thriller written and directed by Stephan Schultze and produced by AZ Film Link — on Oct. 30. Sedona Parks and Recreation has gone to the dogs! Dog obedience that is.

Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer two dog obedience classes being taught by Instructor Starr Ladehoff who has over 23 years experience training animals. Let Starr help you achieve teaching basic skills to your four-legged friend. Classes will be held in the upper softball field of Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. Both classes run for six weeks and cost $75 per dog.

The city of Sedona will hold its 2010 primary election on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, and its general election on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. This will be a vote by mail election. Three council seats for a four-year term, the mayor’s two-year term, and the question whether the mayor shall be elected by the people or appointed by the council beginning in 2012 will be on the ballot. Candidate packets will be available at 8 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Sedona City Clerk’s Office.
