Nothing beats the summertime blahs like a stroll along a burbling, shaded, high-country creek. Aaaah.
Several terrific hikes fit the bill, but for ease of access and scenic beauty, it’s hard to beat Horton Creek, tucked up in the Mogollon Rim, just a couple hours from downtown Phoenix.
The hike begins at the Upper Tonto Creek Campground, about 16 miles east of Payson and nearly a mile north of Arizona 260.
